Signs of Dehydration:

While hot and cold water dispensers are a very effective way to prevent dehydration, how do you know if you are dehydrated? In the hot summer weather, you may be reaching for your cold water dispenser and automatically avoid dehydration. However, dehydration can also be a problem in colder weather. Therefore, you need to be aware of the signs of dehydration, so you can ensure that you stay healthy throughout the year.

Symptoms of Dehydration:
The symptoms of mild dehydration can vary from headaches, dizziness and irritability. However, if dehydration is not adequately addressed, the symptoms can develop into serious issues including weakness, constipation, fever, fainting and confusion. Contrary to popular belief, a feeling of thirst is actually a sign that you are already dehydrated. Therefore, it is important that you not wait until you feel thirsty to take a drink. The most apparent indication of dehydration is the colour of your urine. Ideally, urine should be completely clear, but if it becomes darker, you need to increase your water intake.

The Benefits of Water:
Avoiding dehydration is not the only reason to increase your water intake. Since the human body is approximately sixty percent water, your fluid levels are important for almost every function. Water is needed to digest food, transport nutrients around the body and excrete toxins. Drinking lots of water not only helps to prevent dehydration but can boost your feeling of health and wellbeing.
Research has shown that drinking water can help to manage your weight. If you are struggling to shift those stubborn kilos, drinking a glass of water half an hour before eating can help to curb your appetite since you will feel fuller. Additionally, you can reduce the calories you are consuming since water is free of sugar. Switching from sugary soft drinks to water could save you hundreds of calories each day.

Drinking water can also help you to feel energised and revitalised. Water can boost your mood and replenish fluid levels in your muscles. If your water intake is low, your muscles can become fatigued leading you to feel exhausted. However, if you drink lots of water, before and after exercising, it will replenish the fluid lost during sweating and help to keep you moving for the rest of the day.
Increasing your fluid intake can also help you to look brighter. When you are not drinking enough, your skin will become dull and dry. However, by increasing your water intake, you can lock in the moisture in your skin, helping it to appear healthier and radiant. Since water helps to flush out toxins from the body, you will not only look great but you can also feel fantastic.
