Things to Look For In Your 15 Litre Water Bottles

When it comes to Perth drinking water, not all 15 litre water bottles are the same. While most consumers recognise that not all bottled water is the same quality, many fail to understand that the quality of the bottles can also differ. Even the highest quality water can be compromised by a poor quality bottle, so here are some things you need to look for in your water bottles.

Free From BPA:
BPA or Bisphenol A is a chemical used to harden plastics. It has been used for decades and it is found in a wide range of products including canned foods, medical devices, dental sealants and water bottles. Recent research has documented that BPA can leach into the food or drink inside the container.

BPA has been surrounded by controversy for the last ten years. Many experts believe that BPA can have detrimental health effects. While the World Health Organisation has yet to conclusively prove whether BPA is toxic, regulatory standards have been established and many manufacturers have ceased using BPA.

Avoid PC:
PC or Polycarbonate is a material recognised for clarity and durability. It is not likely to break like glass but retains visual appeal. PC bottles are less likely to develop a leak, but unfortunately, they are more costly to produce and still contain a presence of BPA.

Look for PET:
PET or Polyethylene Terephthalate is lightweight, fairly durable and free of BPA. While it is not as likely to break or dangerous as glass, it can be prone to developing leaks. PET bottles can also be 100% recycled; this makes them a fantastically eco friendly option.

Think Recycling:
HDPE or High Density Polyethylene is not only one of the most inexpensive water bottle materials, but it also has one of the highest recycle rates. This makes HDPE bottles the most environmentally friendly choice. HDPE bottles are opaque, which can make them a little less aesthetically pleasing and bottles can develop a plastic taste if the bottles are not stored in a cool place.

Consider the Disadvantages of Glass:
While glass has always been a popular choice for water bottles, the decline of glass production has dramatically increased the cost of production. Since glass can be imported in from around the world, there are also issues about quality regulations. Glass can also be very dangerous since shards are produced when bottles are broken. Since it is inevitable that a water bottle will be accidentally dropped at some point, you need to assess whether glass bottles are the right choice for your family.

While choosing a water supplier should be primarily about the quality of the water, the choice of bottles is also important. When considering buying your 15 litre water bottles, consumers need to assess what materials are used and whether they are compromising the quality of the water.
